At Plain in Portugal we truly believe that we must think, design, create and produce regarding sustainability.

 

These are some of the sustainable materials we work with on a daily basis. However, there are plenty more that we can offer depending on your needs, from organic cotton to recycled bottle fabrics.

Organic Cotton

Grown without the use of toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, organic cotton has a low impact on the environment comparatively with traditional cotton that is one of the most chemical-­intensive crops. Organic cotton can also help build a biologically diverse agriculture.

Ecovero fabric

EcoVero

EcoVero is known to be the sustainable viscose with the lowest impact on the environment. The manufacturing of this fibers generates up to 50% less emissions and water impact compared to genetic Viscose. The raw material used is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (program for Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) approved to assure sustainability.

Vegetable Dye

The synthetic dye waste from the textile industry is classified as one of the major producers of large amount of hazardous and toxic waste, provoking environmental problems. In contrast, the use of natural dyes is reported to produce fewer pollutants and they maintain the biodiversity and natural resources. Natural vegetable dyes come from roots, berries, bark, leaves, wood and even fungi.

Hemp fiber

This specific type of cannabis plant is pest and disease resistant and it’s one of the strongest natural fibers. It can be blended with other types of fibers for different garments and have special properties such as anti-bacterial properties, excellent breathability, UV blocking and high abrasion resistance.
